MAKE HIM KNOWN

The Fall of Adam in the garden of Eden caused darkness to enter the hearts of people and blinded their minds against truth. Then Jesus came as the Light of the world. Through His death and resurrection he ended the bondage to Satan and his principalities, powers and evil spirits, he ended the power of sin and the fear of death, and the veil of darkness was removed. Jesus’ last word to his disciples was to GO into all the world and preach the good news of salvation, forgiveness of sins and eternal life.

Although the gospel has spread to almost every nation in the world, there are still many people who have never heard the gospel clearly explained to them. Lawlessness, persecution of Christians and a great falling away from the Christian faith are increasing. Jesus said we should pray to the Lord of the Harvest to send workers into the harvest fields.

The only way that light can penetrate the darkness is when the gospel is preached in such a way that people can believe in Jesus, repent of sin, and surrender their lives to Him. As the world becomes increasingly hostile to Christians, we are called to shine as lights in a crooked and twisted generation.

In 1727, the Moravian community of Hernnhut, Germany, started a round-the-clock prayer vigil that continued non-stop for over a 100 years. By 1791, 65 years later, that small community had sent 300 missionaries to the ends of the earth. William Carey left England in 1793 to plant a church in India and sparked the modern mission movement. Today 42% of the world’s people groups are still waiting to hear the good news about salvation in Jesus Christ. The completion of the task Jesus gave us in Matthew 28:19 is our individual responsibility: “Go therefore and make disciples of all the nations.” If the prayers of the Moravians could influence the eternal destiny of nations, let us follow their example and help to complete the task of world evangelism.

In 1920 Daniel Fleming wrote a book called The marks of a World Christian. World Christians are ordinary believers who made it their priority to advance the gospel of Jesus Christ to every nation of the world through prayer, missions and evangelism. Since the day that the apostle Peter saw the vision that led to the conversion of the first gentiles (Acts 10:11), the Holy Spirit wants to open our eyes to see that people of other nationalities need his salvation. Even though most of us will never travel to another nation, our prayers can reach a person at the remotest corner of the earth. One day we will be astonished at how a simple prayer could influence world history.
