Keeping a spiritual journal is a vital tool in your walk with God. Use a notebook that gives you at least a page per day. In this notebook you can write down your prayers, what God is saying to you and what you are discovering about the character of God. Use different colours to write your own thoughts and what you think comes from God. You can draw pictures or write poems, paste pictures or photos, or anything that touches you on this journey. You can even write songs while you meditate on the attributes of God.
Ask yourself questions such as these:
- God is …?
- Does it make any difference to my life that God is…?
- How does it make me feel to know that God is …?
- How does God want me to respond to Him?
- What is my own response and why do I react in this way?
- What lies of Satan have I believed?
- Why am I willing to believe a lie rather than God’s truth?
- What Scripture can I use as a foundation stone to build the truth on?
- Holy Spirit, search me…
- Lord Jesus, reveal Yourself to me…
- Father, sanctify me…
Don’t rush through the Bible but allow yourself enough time to savour the scriptures, to allow it to saturate your mind and to taste and see that the Lord is good. If you get stuck at any point, ask the Lord to show you what the hindrances are and what you should to about it. It may be that you will need some more time to wait on the Lord to receive a revelation from Him. Do not be too hard on yourself as you discover the lies you have believed all your life. Rather draw closer to the Lord, allow Him to comfort and encourage you. Truth will set you free, and as the Holy Spirit communicates the truth about God to you, strongholds of lies will be broken, and you will live in the light of God’s love for you.
